About Us

   The Long Island Meadery is a licensed NYS winery that specializes in producing honey wines and meads. We first learned of mead ourselves at a medieval recreationist event sponsored by the SCA, and attended by approximately 7000 people. Of all the things we saw and did at that first event, it was the mead that made the biggest impact.

   The event lasted the weekend for us and afterward we went looking for mead locally. Due to the difficulty in locating a mead to our liking, as many others do, we started home brewing our own mead. The production rate increased over the next few years with demand at SCA events, private parties and weddings as well.

   Finally, production had completely taken over our kitchen, and something had to be done. The next logical step was to go commercial. So we found a suitable location, and filed for all the licenses and permits. Finally we started making the age old product referred to as the 'Nectar of the Gods'
